In short: I think this is a gorgeous, elegant, precise bike, on par with others three times its price. It exceeded all my expectations, I enjoy it tremendously, and every time I look at it I want to take it for a ride. I’m 5’7" (145 lbs. ) with a 30" inseam, and the Small size (intended for 5’6"-5’8") is a perfect fit. Read on for some details. ..I recently got back into road bicycling. I did some in my youth some 25 years ago on more primitive vehicles, then some commuting on a hybrid bike, so I have an idea about basic bike riding and fixing, but not on an expert level. I was looking for a budget bike to see how much fun I can have now. After seeing that shops start around $700 and department stores have a couple $200 bikes that are essentially the same as my 15 year old hybrid bike but with a curved handlebar, I searched for something in the middle, and gave my vote to this one. Tommasos are designed in Italy and made in the US. My bike arrived by FedEx in a big flat box a few days after ordering, almost fully assembled: after removing the protective padding all I had to do was secure the handlebar in its bracket, put the seat into its post, and the front wheel and pedals into their places. Everything looked flawless, and I noticed small signs of attention to detail, e.g. torque values stamped into the handlebar stem and seat post. The box states that the bike is supposed to be assembled by a professional mechanic, and since I was going to ride it as fast as I could, to be on the safe side, I paid $80 to a bike shop to inspect and tune up everything. The weak spot seems to be the wheels. The mechanic noted that although he trued the wheels, they had a vertical wobble because they weren’t exactly round. He advised me to try it if I feel safe, and maybe to contact the manufacturer for replacements. Then I asked a biker friend, and it turned out he’s got 25 years of experience, more than a dozen bikes, and his own bike shop at home. He took off the tires and did some more work on the spokes. In the end about 2 mm of wobble remained in each wheel, and he ensured me that it’s perfectly fine for wheels at this price point, and I wouldn’t feel anything. Since then I rode the bike quite a bit, downhill too at almost the maximum speed, and I never felt anything out of ordinary. The bike cruises quietly, shifting is accurate, breaks are good and noiseless. I measured it at exactly 25 lbs. ; doesn’t feel heavy at all. The 3×8 speeds give me a good range; the lowest gear is harder on hills than my hybrid bike’s lowest, but the highest gears give me better speed on flats and downhills. The Shimano Claris shifters have double levers which means that I can do both up and down shifting without changing my grip. (I was looking for that after seeing other Shimanos with little stubby 2nd levers on the sides of the shifters. ) So, everything works smoothly. If I had to buy a road bicycle again, I would go with this bike again without hesitation. Check it out!

So, 90% of this bike is awesome. However, the wheels and the seat are garbage and should both be replaced if you plan on putting any serious miles on this bike. I’ve got about 60 miles on the bike so far and I’m very pleased. It was very easy to put together with some Metric allen wrenches although I still need to get a tune up probably to get my brakes tighter and the derailleur cleaned up. For the price, I don’t really see how you can beat this bike. Similar bikes are at the very least $100 more and realistically they are probably the same or lower quality. The riding position is really nice and it goes up and down through the gears really well even without the tuneup. Pet peeves though are the seat and the wheels like I mentioned. The seat is more like a sex toy then it is a saddle. Even with a pair of padded biking underwear and thick polyester shorts over those I feel this seat should of asked me my name first and bought me a drink if you know what I’m saying. A gel replacement is on it’s way. The wheels I think are where they cut to get the cost down on this bike. Unless you plan on riding this thing on a wood floor these wheels are gonna have a short lifespan. Very weak IMO and I will probably ride them through the season and replace them in the spring with something beefier. If they even last that long. All in all though I’m really happy. I haven’t enjoyed riding a bike this much in a long time and even with having to spend $25 on a replacement seat and probably $100-150 on some replacement wheels I still think I got a great deal. If you are looking to get into road biking without a huge commitment I could definitely recommend the Tommaso Imola to anyone. One other thing, I did a lot of back and forth through the Tommaso lineup before finally settling on the Imola. IMO based on my research, when you look at their bikes that start with this one at $499 and go up in $50 increments to about their $800 bikes there really isn’t any reason to buy a bike other then the Imola. They all still have the Claris components and with the exception of the ones that come with the carbon fork any difference you will see is negligible. IMO if you are someone who is looking at a $499 bike and not a $2000 bike you will not be able to tell the difference from the Imola at $499 or their $750 bikes. Save the couple hundred bucks and just get the Imola. -Read Reviews-

Honestly I would give it four and half stars if I could. Don’t get me wrong, it a great bike just not perfect. This is the first high end bike I ever owned. I’ve always had Huffy, Schwinn and even Coast King. So there was a lot of getting used to. The negatives would be there’s no instructions how to put it together. It comes mostly assembled and is pretty self explanatory but basic instructions would have been nice. Your still left having to figure out how to put the pedals on [they tighten counter clock wise], how to put on the wheel reflectors, and tighten the brakes to name a few things. It does say professional assembly required but if ur fairly handy u can do it yourself. After dropping $500 I didn’t feel like spending more. All u need is an allen wrench and a phillips screwdriver. The seat is ridic. Its a super hard rubber. Even with padded bike shorts this thing an instrument of torture. It was replaced immediately. The wheels are ok. Btw, there’s no kick stand. Its sold separate The shifting was something completely foreign to me. There aren’t instructions how to do this. My first ride I figured it out after a little while. U need to push the brake lever/levers inward. I would say that it is without a doubt the best shifting system I’ve ever used. Very simple, low profile and accurate. Quite ingenious. Its super light and glides along like a dream. The handlebars are great and allow you to duck down to cut through a strong wind and climbing hills seems easier. The bike trail I ride on is in a wide open rural area so this is great. I noticed my average speed increased with this bike as opposed to my Schwinn. If your hands are on the upper or lower portion of the handlebars its still ez too shift and brake. If ur looking for a high end bike on a budget, then this is for you.
