My son loves this book so much. He had already memorized parts of it when he was only two and frequently quoted the book. It’s a very sweet, simple tale about a character who feels like there’s something missing in his life and spends his time in search of the perfect piece to complete him. Once he finds it, he realizes that sometimes you don’t always want what you think you want, and that sometimes the journey is more enjoyable than the destination. Beautiful lessons. Check it out!
From the Back Cover It was missing a piece. And it was not happy. So it set off in searchof its missing piece. And as it rolledit sang this song -Oh I’m lookin’ for my missin’ pieceI’m lookin’ for my missin’ pieceHi-dee-ho, here I go,Lookin’ for my missin’ piece. What it finds on its search for the missing piece is simply and touchingly told in this fable that gently probes the nature of quest and fulfillment.
The Missing Piece Hardcover – January 24, 2006 by Shel Silverstein (Author, Illustrator) Review
This is one book of two by Shel Silverstein that I deem one of the best self help books I have ever read. It so clearly and magically shows the relationship of self and others and how easy it is to become codependent. You have to get both books to really get a clearer picture but either on their own are fabulous. Great for kids, to teach them about happiness in relationships. -Read Reviews-
The book is great. The only complaint I have is the ad that led me to the purchase. It was on a list of things to buy your significant other for Valentine’s Day. Great story, but not exactly what you would want to give your wife (talks about not needing anyone else to help you find happiness).
