As a huge fan of Percy Jackson, I was so excited to continue the adventure with The Heroes of Olympus. After reading this book, the first in the series, I’m neither satisfied nor disappointed. It was nice to dive back in to the world of Camp Half-Blood but I just couldn’t get too involved with the new characters like I did with Percy and his crew. I also purchased the second book to try and get more into it, that book will determine whether I continue the series or not. As for if I would recommend this book, I’d say it’s worth a try. 🙂 Check it out!
From School Library Journal Grade 5–9—This slim volume is clearly intended as a stop-gap product to tide eager readers over until the final volume of the series is released. In addition to three previously unreleased short stories about Percy and his companions, it also includes such filler as interviews with the same, along with word games, portraits of some of the Gods and their half-blood offspring, and the inevitable sneak preview of Book 5. The short stories are the meat of this book, and are filled with Riordan’s trademark anachronistic humor. The first one puts Percy and his enemy Clarisse, the daughter of Ares, on the same team as she tries to retrieve her father’s chariot, which has been hijacked as a prank by her two immortal brothers. The second story relates an incident that occurred during one of Camp Half-Blood’s infamous Capture the Flag games, when Charlie Beckendorf, the camp counselor for Hephaestus, is captured by a horde of giant, poisonous ants, and has to be rescued with the help of a mechanical dragon. The final story brings Percy, Thalia, and Nico, the son of Hades, together at the request of Persephone to help retrieve Hades’s stolen sword, the loss of which could be deadly to the Gods, and the resolution of which forms a lead-up to the probable events of Book 5. Despite the fact that this is more of a marketing package than anything else, the quality of and interest in the three stories likely justifies its purchase.—Tim Wadham, St. Louis County Library, MO Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. The Demigod Files (Percy Jackson) Paperback – December 1, 2009 by Rick Riordan (Author) Review
I chose this rating because first off, I liked the messages it have out. How Piper’s mother is Aphrodite but she can still be a hero and he brave and bold. You always expect Athena’s children to do everything and make everything right, but Piper is a sign that your parents don’t make out who you are. I extremely loved Piper as a character, because she is that female role model that you love. I also liked that Leo was not intended to be the third wheel. When everybody had their eyes on the brilliant Jason who is Zeus’s son and Good looking Piper who looks hot, he still is brilliant and a very likable character. I can’t say much about Jason, because he’s a full main character. Additionally, I liked that the series continued and I thank the brilliant Rick Riordan who is the phenomenal author and who created all of this! Please keep making good books and I loved this one! -Read Reviews-
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Demigod Files by Rick Riordan is one of my favorite books ever. I love the never told, action-packed stories like this: Percy, Nico, and Thalia go to the underworld and try to retrieve the Sword of Hades from one of Kronoss servants and end up fighting Iapetus the titan on the banks of the River Lethe. In the end, Percy drags the titan into the river and re-names him Bob, which I find funny because it is hilarious to re-name an immortal being Bob. (Also, it is a lame pun. ) Additionally, I like the book because you can read the stories in 1-3 sittings. (Each story is about 30 pages. ) I hope you like the book as much as I did!
