Saris Bones 2-Bike Trunk Rack

I purchased this to carry road bikes. This is a very high quality product that is worth the price. For practice I just mounted this rack on my 2013 Hyundai Genesis and then on my Cadillac CTS 4. Neither of these vehicles are allowed to get a scratch. That was the main requirement. The rack definitely passes the no-scratch test for the three pads that touch your trunk and bumper. You could probably drive a few hundred miles without any abrasion under the three main pads. I will probably put a decent coat of wax under the pads anyway. The straps are a very sturdy design. There is plenty of extra strap. They are easy to latch down and loosen. I think they will survive a long trip if they are strapped according to the instructions. The buckles are metal, which is a good idea. The rungs that hold the bike are well designed. They are easy to use once you get used to how they work. The anti-sway rung is a very nice touch. Many other racks make you deal with keeping the bike from swaying. I want to share a mistake that I made during my first installation that you should try to avoid. On my first install, I put the top pad as far back on the trunk lid as I could. It was near where the trunk lid meets the back window of the car. This configuration allows the inner bike’s inner pedal to strike the back trunk lid, and also allows the strap buckles to strike the surface of the lid. The solution is to move the top pad toward the back of the car a few inches (away from the back window). Just rotate the top spar downward until the spars that hold the bike are further from the car. It is that simple. The first time you install this rack, it might take you 20 minutes. The second time you install it will take 5 minutes. Once you figure it out, the rack is very easy to install. Taking it off the trunk takes a minute or two. As is probably true for most racks, it is our responsibility to keep the front wheel from turning and flopping in the wind. I would love it if racks had some way we could lock the front wheel down. It would be a nice touch if these racks came with the Saris straps to take care of that (they have them). For now, I am going to use a bungee cord to keep the front wheel still. Check it out!

Saris Bones 2-Bike Trunk Rack Review

Very good productPROS-3 strapping points – 2 on top tube, 1 on seat tube-Durable structure with Aluminum core. -Not heavy-Easy to mount and fasten on the trunk-Nice design, when ounted and also when folded. It does not take much space. -Independet support arms allows you to adjust to the frame shape. -Arms can be adjustable to bike height, so you don’t get it too close to the ground and not too high up. -The empty rack with arms opened or folded allow you to open the trunk without any obstruction and no risk to touch the back glass. -No scratches or marks, the rubber feet work well-I’ve used so far 2 times, driven for 60 miles with my bike on it, and it holds perfectly, no vibration or loose bike. CONS-Metal clamps of the straps might hit the car body, when vibrating, so be careful and protect that area. (I used the extra strap to wrap the metal clamp and rubber bands to hold it in place. -Excess of straps needs to be secured somehow, otherwise it will be flying loose-Plastic screw to tigthen the supports does not look so strong. -Plastic straps to hold the bikes, does not have a toch finishing, so it may rub the bike frame painting. (I’ve seen other brnads with a rubber strap instead. -The straps to hold the rack in place are not so convenient, 6 holding points to fix every time. -There ‘s nothing to hold the steering tube and front wheel from rotating. You might not like that loose during transport hitting your bumper (I used hook&look straps – 1 to hold front wheel and another to hold pedal and rear wheel)One good thing on the ford fusion trunk is the dedicated holes to anchor the hooks on the bottom (At least I imaginne that’ the purpose of them)Easy to mount on the trunk with the straps and clamps. -Read Reviews-

I tried to save a few bucks and bought an cheaper rack for around $60 at The Sports Authority and it was a disaster. The fit was awful and the strap that holds the bike in broke the first day I had it. I returned the rack to the store and went online to find “a good one. ” Everyone was saying good things about the Saris Bones racks so I went on Amazon (since I am a Prime Member) and ordered one. It is the best bike rack I have ever owned! The fit is incredible, I can even open the trunk lid on my Infinity G37X with the rack on! Very cool. Being able to adjust the two “arms” that hold the bike ensures that you can make any type of bike fit without hanging it at an awkward angle. The design is cool too, it actually looks good on the car which is very unusual for a bike rack. The rubber feet are nice and big, the straps, buckle and hooks are perfect – everything was apparently thought through by the designers of this rack. Good work! Also, I spent the few bucks for the strap that keeps your front wheel from flapping back and forth and hitting your car – 7 bucks for a pair of them, well worth the $$$. Happy shopping! FM.
