Buy “NETGEAR N600 Dual Band Wi-Fi ADSL (Non-Cable) Modem Router ADSL2+ Gigabit Ethernet (DGND3700) Electronics” Online
SELECTION: I liked the description of item. I have Verizon DSL and was concerned about getting a compatible modem-router. After I narrowed the number of units I was looking at, I went with this one because of the good reviews and that it was the most clear that it was compatible. INSTALLATION: Over two hours of ugh. Even though everything was connected as diagrammed with the correct cables, the system didn’t recognize my computer. If this happens to you in Setup Wizard, don’t bother troubleshooting. The bottom of the three selections on the "couldn’t detect" error screen is something like "none of the above" and through that series of prompts you can enter your old wifi physical address and the system can set itself up that way. If you have a PC, click the windows/start button, type CMD in the search programs and file box (you may have a "run" option to select first), and hit enter. When you get to the black command box, type in "ipconfig /all". This will get you a lot of info. I wasn’t sure what to enter, so it took trial and error. For me, the Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connect 2 Physical Address worked. I chose the Ethernet physical address first. It didn’t work and the one that did described it as the Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Address. FUNCTION: My old wifi was a decade old and kept dropping the connection. I’ve used this device for a week and nothing has dropped, so I’m pleased there. It also looks like it will be pretty easy to install a wireless printer and different such devices. Check it out!

NETGEAR N600 Dual Band Wi-Fi ADSL (Non-Cable) Modem Router ADSL2+ Gigabit Ethernet (DGND3700) Review
I can’t figure out why others have had so much trouble with this Modem/Router. I initially bought a highly recommended TD-8980, then fought it for 3 days to connect to my DSL service. I finally sent it back and bought this one. In LESS than 10 minutes, I was up and running perfectly. I bought this one slightly used from Amazon, and when I got it, you couldn’t tell it from brand new. It was priced better than brand new, of course, which is why I went for it and I’m glad I did. The setup was effortless. My equipment won’t use the 5Ghz band, (I may install newer network cards later on), but the throughput on the 2. 4 Ghz band is MUCH better than the old ZHONE phone company router, which is going back TODAY!This, to me, is a fine piece of equipment that will save you the rental cost of the one from your phone co. As I said before, I had ZERO issues installing and running this thing. I think people need to stop screwing around with theirs and follow the damn directions. I did, and it works gangbusters. It has since I installed it a week ago. It does not drop the connection, as others have said. NOT ONCE! I haven’t gotten the 4TB WD external drive to work in the USB slot like I want to, but that’s the ONLY flaw I’ve seen with it, and I understand there are others who have figured out how to get it running right. It’s a known issue, anyway. That’s a project for another day. Again, my opinion is that you can’t go wrong with this modem/router. Follow the damn directions when you set it up and I bet it’ll work for you as well! -Read Reviews-

Ordered this unit on 1/10, tried hooking it up, and the DSL light continually flashed green. Contacted Netgear support, and got a script kid, and they hung up on me when I discovered that they did not know their own hardware’s specifications, and asked for tier 2 support. Called ATT, and verified that my line was ok, and tried my old 2 wire modem to verify. It synced up perfectly. Called Netgear again, was instructed to update the firmware to . 17US. Upgraded, did a hard reset, with no joy. The modem still flashed green. They stated that the device was defective and to return it. Got in touch with Amazon via chat, and am getting a replacement unit tomorrow (1/12). I’ll update once I get the new unit. ((Update 1/14/12)) Got the replacement unit, and it had the same issue. Problem was escalated to Engineering at Netgear. While waiting for them to get back to me, I decided to do some sleuthing. Checked the 2 wire’s settings again, and noticed that the DSL signal was being acquired from the outer pair on the RJ11 jack. Looked at the RJ11 female connection on the Netgear, and only saw pins for the inner pair. (Cheap-out engineering on Netgear’s part)I switched the wiring on my jack to put the signal on the inner pair, and reconnected to the router. BOOM! synced’ up in about 20 seconds, and had Internet connectivity in about 15 seconds after that. Final thoughts. .Netgear has a winner here, the dual radios and rock solid wireless is a plus! Netgear does however need to include documentation with this unit, including troubleshooting tips. Kinda hard to read the docs online if your FRIGGIN MODEM IS NOT WORKING!I do feel that by only using the inner pair for DSL, is just a way to save a few pennies on mfg costs, but if it is not documented that it is REQUIRED, can cause issues like mine. Two days of business down-time, and an unneeded RMA. My old 2Wire modem/router was able to sense which pair the signal was on, and used it. 🙂
