i have been a fan of santana since i was a teenager in the early 70’s. i met a kid from venezuela who listened to santana all the time and turned me on to their cool mix of latin percussion and rock and roll. at the time i wasn’t aware they had been playing around the west coast for years. this cd is an early version of the santana blues band and sounds great. they quickly became one of bill grahams favorite bands and played with many of the famous west coast bands of the time. i guess you could say the rest is history !! if you want to hear what they sounded like in 1968 get this cd because the whole show is outstanding !! another reviewer downgraded this cd because it does not compare favorably to woodstock ;;;; well that came later , this is a year earlier and gives a fine glimpse into how the band evolved over and through this exciting time in their history. if you are a fan you will enjoy it because it’s different and fun to hear these early years. cheers !!! Check it out!
Product Description More than 100 minutes of unreleased live Santana from when they were just a glimmer in Bill Graham’s eye! Seriously, the band’s almost a full year away from their breakthrough performance at Woodstock when they performed these nine songs, five of which they never subsequently recorded. Includes the hits Jingo and Soul Sacrifice , plus notes and unseen photos. Had this 2 CD set, recorded just prior to the band’s Columbia debut in 1968, been released in the mid-’70s, it would have been a multi-platinum certainty. Today it’s an object lesson in how time can turn white-hot acts into stone cold catalog filler. Pretty cool version of "Soul Sacrifice," though. –Jeff Bateman
Live At The Fillmore – 1968 Review
Five Star Santana Performance, no doubt about it. I was really happy to find this one. I think I have a slight preference for disc one but they are both great. Very happy with the recording and sound quality. Some excellent guitar work here. I cannot yet rate it against other live Santana as I have not heard them yet but you cannot go wrong with this one. -Read Reviews-
