AHI Records and Halloweenmovies.com, to be distributed by BUYSOUNDTRAX Records, have released a special Limited Edition Expanded release of HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS. The soundtrack features music composed & performed by Alan Howarth (THE LOST EMPIRE, HEADLESS) for the 1989 sequel to the popular HALLOWEEN series directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard (OMEN IV: THE AWAKENING), starring Danielle Harris, Ellie Cornell, Beau Starr, Donald L. Shanks as Michael Myers and Donald Pleasance as Dr. Loomis. HALLOWEEN 5 takes place approximately one year after the events of HALLOWEEN 4. Jamie Lloyd (Harris) has been remanded to Haddonfield s Children s Hospital after attacking her stepmother a year before. She is being treated by Dr. Loomis (Pleasance) and cared for her by her stepsister Rachel (Cornell) and her friend, Tina. The unstoppable Michael has spent the year in a coma, recovering from his wounds and awakens to search for Jamie again. Jamie, who hasn t spoken since the attack on her stepmother, discovers that she has developed a telepathic link to her demonic uncle and becomes aware that he has awoken. Learning about Jamie s link to Michael, Dr. Loomis plans to use her talent to his advantage, to finish Michael once and for all. The score for 5 HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS was performed by Alan Howarth, who had assisted John Carpenter on HALLOWEEN II and HALLOWEEN III and returning again after scoring HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS. With the fifth film, director Dominique Othenin-Girard wanted to return to the musical style of the first film, which included more writing for piano. Using the Synclavier, then considered state-of-the-art technology in 1989, Howarth was able to accommodate the director s request and also employed the Kurzweil 250 electronic sampler, a pair of Linn drum machines and several new banks of emulators, equipment which had already been used successfully on the score for THEY LIVE. Alan Howarth, in addition to being a composer, is an accomplished sound designer and editor, having worked on films such as STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, POLTERGEIST, TOTAL RECALL, ARMY OF DARKNESS, BRAM STOKER S DRACULA, STARGATE and many others. He has been a frequent music collaborator with John Carpenter on his films beginning with ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK in 1980 and including HALLOWEEN II & III, CHRISTINE, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, THEY LIVE and PRINCE OF DARKNESS and Alan has scored many films on his own, including THE LOST EMPIRE, RETRIBUTION, HALLOWEEN 4 & 5, THE DENTIST, HEADLESS, BOO! And, most recently, EVILUTION and BASEMENT JACK. For this new expanded release of HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS, the composer returned to the original multi-track masters and transferred them directly into Pro Tools, allowing him to create all new digital mixes. The music has been newly remastered and contains previously unreleased music. Also included is the original album presentation, newly remastered. The booklet includes exclusive in-depth liner notes written by author Randall Larson, with the participation of the composer.
Halloween 5-The Revenge of Michael Myers (Expanded Edition) Review
Best one ever. -Read Reviews-
In 1989, Alan Howarth (known for his work with John Carpenter on ‘Halloween’, ‘Halloween 2’, and ‘Prince of Darkness’) returned to score ‘Halloween 5’, after the previous year’s success of ‘Halloween 4’ which brought the psychopathic Michael Myers back to the big screen. The score he produced contained a number of new themes, as well as some material from the previous films. Having owned the original Varese Sarabande release of this soundtrack, I can say with some certainty that this is an improvement. It appears this release is pretty much the entire score, presented in chronological order (as was the original soundtrack, which also is included on this CD). Every single track (except perhaps the main title) has some additional cues added to it, the most notable being ‘The Child of Evil Must Die’ – when young Jamie Lloyd, Michael’s young niece, becomes the target of anger & hatred from locals because of her attack against her adopted mother at the end of ‘Halloween 4’; ‘Tower Farm Murders’ – a self-explanatory track as the murderous Myers carries out his horrible rampage at the Tower Farm Halloween party – and ‘The Raging Must Stop’ – heard as Dr. Loomis lures Myers to the home where he committed his first murder and where Loomis will eventually trap him. This particular CD was also autographed by Alan Howarth himself. Fans of Howarth’s music – or the Halloween series – will want to lay their hands on this one.
