To be honest, I’m not a huge Eric Carle fan. I like the books, but they aren’t our go to’s. However, this one really stands out. I love this one so much, because my 17 month old loves it. It’s perfect for him, because it encourages interaction. He loves animals and all the pages have different things animals do, for you to copy. Touch your head, bend your neck, touch your toes, etc. He loves for us to read the captions, look at the simple pictures, and then copy what’s being done. Perfect learning tool as we’re teaching him what all the body parts are. It’s a great size board book and perfect for his little hands. Really good quality – sturdy, excellent page thickness. Check it out!
From Publishers Weekly As the artist’s collages emulate animal movements, children will “eagerly clap, stomp, kick and wriggle their way through these pages,” said PW. Ages 4-8. (Oct.) Copyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc. –This text refers to the Board book edition.
From Head to Toe Hardcover – March 28, 1997 by Eric Carle (Author, Illustrator) Review
It’s a cute story and more active than Brown Bear, etc. My daughter is in love with Brown Bear and Polar Bear so I got this as an Easter gift. I like that I can act out the animal moves and try to get her to do it, too (she’s 10 months). She laughs at some of the moves. The story is basically saying you are an animal, ex: I am a monkey. I can move my arms. Can you? and Then a child replying they can do it too. I like the size of the book – easy for her to hold and flip through. The board book is good because I don’t have to worry about her ripping the pages. I gave it four stars because she seems to prefer the other two books. -Read Reviews-
As usual, great quality from this publisher. My son beats up his board books but these same to last. Eric Carle has an amazing way with illustrations but I thought the story was different (I thought it was teaching kids what each body part, but this is more about what they can do — if that makes sense). It’s a cute book but not sure I would buy it again (but that’s on me for not knowing the story).
