I read this series with my 8 year old son and I have to say that even though it kept him entertained I wished I waited another year or two. There are a lot of deaths and Kidnappings in these books which I think might be a little on the hard to digest side for a younger child. The books themselves are very well written. I found myself expanding my vocabulary reading them. The story itself is very compelling and keeps moving at a quick pace. The writer supports great values and teaches about choices and consequences. The characters grow and mature as the series progresses, especially the teenage boy who makes some very impulsive choices which impact the safety and lives of others. These books are very entertaining, clean and free of any hidden agendas. I will definitely be reading the story of Kendra and Seth with my other children. I would highly recommend this book for kids 10 and over. Check it out!

Fablehaven Complete Set (Boxed Set): Fablehaven; Rise of the Evening Star; Grip of the Shadow Plague; Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary; Keys to the Demon Prison Paperback – October 4, 2011 by Brandon Mull (Author) Review
Fablehaven is possibly the most imaginative series I have ever read. If you’re a reader of Middle grade and YA, I believe the tone of this series falls somewhere between Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. Fablehaven is a whole lot of fun like Percy Jackson with higher stakes–much like Harry Potter. I would even venture to say that this series is even more creative and full of imagination than either of the above mentioned series. I had more fun reading than I’ve had in a long time. In fact I read the entire series during a one-week vacation. The twists and turns were incredible. Typically I know what’s going to happen before it does. Fablehaven was always a few steps ahead of me. .. at least. The characters were great–from the main characters (Seth and Kendra) to the side characters full of mythological creatures with very original twists. The build up from book to book was amazingly paced, making the whole series feel like one flawless, single book. The stakes continued to get higher and the action, twists, and turns increased along with the depth of the relationships. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I look forward to checking out everything else Brandon Mull has written. He is one of the most talented authors writing in this genre. .. or any genre for that matter. -Read Reviews-
Brandon Mull does a great job of writing stories that are entertaining for kids and adults. I read this series a few years ago borrowing it from the library. Recently I wanted to go through it with my kids so decided to buy the set. They love the stories and I love how animated they get about it. They love and hate Seth with his fun-loving, yet often careless attitude and the humor he brings to the adventures. I am not concerned about any questionable content, and at the same time, I do not dread having to read a pointless, mind-numbing story. Most parents out there will know what it’s like to have your child really enjoy something you can’t stand so I am happy this does not fall into that category.
