Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years of the Story (An Album to Benefit War Child)

As an artist, a performer, and a person, to put it simply, Brandi Carlile is a class act. She has been one of my favorite artists ever since I discovered her first album. Her voice is so unique. It’s raw and genuine and full of such natural talent. To hear and see her and the twins perform live brings tears to my eyes every time. It’s a shame that she is not more well known because she’s just an incredible talent. Cover Stories is the perfect example of Brandi’s creative genius and generous spirit. She brought together some amazing artists (most notably Dolly Parton, Pearl Jam, Kris Kristofferson, and the Avett Brothers) for a cause that is sadly so relevant right now. Taking away the politics and the controversy of war, Brandi simply uses her music for good and sheds a light on the most innocent and affected among us- children. As a longtime Brandi fan, the highlights for me were Dolly’s rendition of The Story and Margo Price’s Downpour. It’s hard to top Brandi’s original versions, but Price’s Downpour has been on repeat for the past 2 days. Brandi’s lyrics never get old to me. "In a crowded room, I’m alone. " Turpentine is also one of my favorite Brandi songs, and unfortunately, it is my least favorite version on this album by Kris Kristofferson. I would also recommend you buy the actual cd because the liner notes are very powerful. There is an opening quote from Barack Obama (also a Brandi fan) and comments from each artist about why they decided to be a part of this album. If you’re new to Brandi, buy every album out there including this one. And make sure to catch her live in concert. Her voice will move you to tears, and her energy on stage will remind you why you love music in the first place. Check it out!

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of Brandi Carlile’s breakthrough album The Story. To celebrate she recruited artists like Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, Pearl Jam, The Avett Brothers, Adele and many more for this Cover Stories album to benefit the charity War Child. Brandi describes this project as "…a David and Goliath story. Since becoming a mother, the reality of a child s beautiful little life being torn apart by war felt like too big of a problem for me. So I asked my heroes and friends to help me launch a rock at the giant that is our refugee crisis and help in the only way we know how, through the power of music."

Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years of the Story (An Album to Benefit War Child) Review

I love that Brandi was able to get this amazing group of artists together to sing her songs for charity. I love me some Dolly but I don’t think anyone does The Story better than Brandi. The Avett Brothers, Indigo Girls, and Adele were amazing. I recommend checking out the rest of Brandi’s music as well. -Read Reviews-

Fun covers. I didn’t care for Kris Kristoferson though. Otherwise it is a great album, that I will listen to a lot.
