My husband wanted me to read this book for years. I never picked it up. After seeing a preview for the upcoming series, I decided I’d better read it. I was not disappointed or led astray with my husbands high praise of this book. As a lover of mythology my whole life, this book was right up my alley and then some. I loved the characters. I was totally snowed by the plot. This, for me, was one of those books I felt intense sadness when I reached the final page. I loved the storytelling vibe of the writing. Great read. Can’t wait for the show and supposedly there’s a book two in the works? Can’t wait! Check it out!
American Gods [TV Tie-In] Audible Audiobook – Unabridged George Guidall (Narrator), Review
I saw the first episode and wanted to know what I was in for. I already love mythology and gods. The only risk was the worry that they would be represented poorly. They absolutely were not. I enjoyed this, the story, the gods, the myths, all of it. The is the first Gaiman book I have read and I quite enjoyed it. I would strongly suggest this to anyone who loves polythiestic mythology. I have rarely seen such accurate descriptions of the gods. -Read Reviews-
This is one of those books that I just keep thinking about. It hasn’t profoundly changed me as a person, but the style and substance of the story are rich and hold up well to consideration. I appreciate that not every nuance of every character must be explained, and that there are things left to the imagination. I’ve heard complaints that none of the characters are likeable, but that’s life. I’ve heard is wasn’t “American” enough, but Gaiman give himself a reasonable out by making the protagonist, Shadow, someone who grew up largely outside of America. Give it a shot; it looks like a long book, but it’s thought-provoking while still being an easy, enjoyable read.
